Ryan Creary

Revelstoke in the summer is about action, movement, and outdoor experiences. The mountains, forests, and rivers create an environment for hiking, biking, rafting, and more. The town has food, music, and cultural events that make it a destination beyond the outdoors. This is what to do in Revelstoke during the summer months.

Revelstoke Mountain Resort in Summer

Revelstoke Mountain Resort

Revelstoke Mountain Resort is known for skiing, but summer brings an entirely different set of activities. The Pipe Mountain Coaster is a high-speed ride down the mountain on a rail-guided cart. Riders control their speed as they navigate sharp turns and drops. The ride covers 1.4 kilometres and descends over 250 vertical metres, offering an adrenaline-filled experience for all ages.

Mountain biking trails start from the gondola, including Fifty-Six Twenty, which descends more than 5,000 vertical feet. Trails range from beginner-friendly to expert-only, with rental options and guided tours available. The resort also offers cross-country biking trails and a skills park for those looking to improve their technique. The Aerial Adventure Park has obstacle courses at different heights, using harnesses and safety lines, and is designed for individuals or groups looking for a physical challenge.

Hiking trails lead from the gondola to subalpine meadows. Wildflowers bloom in July and August, and the views include the Columbia River and Monashee Mountains. Guided hiking tours are available for those who want to learn more about the area's flora and fauna. The resort also has disc golf, axe throwing, and tandem paragliding, where participants take off from the mountaintop and glide over the valley with an experienced pilot.

Mount Revelstoke National Park

Mount Revelstoke National Park has a mix of driving and hiking experiences. The Meadows in the Sky Parkway is a 26-kilometre road that climbs through different ecosystems. At the top, short trails lead to viewpoints and alpine lakes, including Eva Lake and Jade Lakes, both known for their clear waters and surrounding peaks.

The Giant Cedars Boardwalk goes through an old-growth forest with trees over 800 years old. The Skunk Cabbage Boardwalk crosses wetlands with unique plant life and bird-watching opportunities. Longer hikes in the park lead to alpine lakes and ridgelines, with changing weather and wildlife sightings being common. The Eva Lake Trail is one of the most popular, covering about 12 kilometres round trip with moderate elevation gain.

Water Activities in Revelstoke

Apex Rafting

Whitewater rafting trips run on the Illecillewaet and Columbia Rivers. Some sections have fast-moving rapids, while others are better for floating and scenery. Outfitters like Apex Rafting and Wild Blue Yonder Revelstoke Rafting provide guided trips with different difficulty levels. Some rafting tours include a mix of rapids and calm sections, allowing for swimming and wildlife viewing along the way.

Kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding are popular on Lake Revelstoke and the Columbia River. Rentals and guided tours are available. The lake has calm waters and mountain surroundings, while the river has stronger currents and requires more experience. Canoeing is another option for those looking for a slower-paced activity, and several launch points along the lake and river make it easy to access the water.

Fishing is another popular activity in the area, with opportunities to catch trout, kokanee, and other freshwater species. Lake Revelstoke, the Columbia River, and surrounding alpine lakes offer different fishing experiences, from shore casting to boat fishing. Local outfitters provide guided fishing trips, and visitors can rent equipment if needed. Fishing regulations vary, so checking local guidelines and obtaining the necessary permits is recommended before heading out.

Cultural and Community Experiences

Revelstoke Farm and Craft Market

Revelstoke has summer events that include markets, music, and art. The farmers market runs on Saturdays, selling local produce, baked goods, and handmade crafts. The event draws a mix of visitors and locals. The market also has food vendors serving freshly prepared meals, making it a great place to grab breakfast or lunch.

Grizzly Plaza has live music every night in July and August. Bands play different styles, and people gather in the open-air space to listen. Local restaurants and cafes are nearby. The event is free, and attendees often bring chairs or blankets to sit and enjoy the performances.

The Art Alleries project turns alleyways into outdoor galleries. Installations include paintings, light displays, and interactive pieces. The exhibits change, and they can be visited at any time of day. Local artists contribute new pieces throughout the summer, keeping the displays fresh and engaging.

Food and Accommodation

Mt. Begbie Brewing Co.

Revelstoke has places to eat that range from casual to fine dining. Restaurants use local ingredients and change menus based on availability. Cafes and bakeries serve breakfast and lunch, with some offering outdoor seating. Breweries and distilleries in town serve craft beer and spirits made with locally sourced ingredients.

Lodging includes hotels, bed and breakfasts, and campgrounds. Some places have package deals that include adventure activities. Camping spots are available inside and outside of the national park, with some requiring reservations. Backcountry camping is also an option for those looking for a more remote experience, with designated sites accessible by hiking trails.
